This article moves from the skin tone of Obama to a stereotype of a cute girl and how one man is influenced by the looks of an woman who is about to celebrate her 18th birthday.

I am thinking of the statement made by the democratic senator Harry Reid who said that Americans were more likely to vote for Obama because the colour of his skin is a lighter tone than other black person’s skin. Of course the voters should vote for merit and qualifications and I believe many people did that.

However society made of very foolish and immature human beings is influenced by appearances, looks, a stereotype of beauty and handsomeness. I am a plain looking lady in my sixties and through out the years I knew without a shadow of a doubt that the pretty girls became popular more quickly and without a huge amount of effort. My daughter who is very attractive (petite, blond when she wants to be, is quite happy to post 1200 pictures of herself on facebook) does attract a lot of attention. Thus she attracted attention at a young age, fine tuned it, and became self confident and self reliant in her early teens and yes she is intelligent and has good leadership qualities. She was able to build her self confidence because she knew her good looks were welcome….she is only 18 now. I had her when I was 45 thus I am an older mom. When I was 19 I was filled with shyness, awkwardness, and my social skills were very limited although my strengths in academics assisted me in living an interesting life. My looks included the following: plain, not homely, an Anglo-Saxon thin face, no high cheek bones, not a Barbie doll look, not an exceptionally attractive body, somewhat on the thin side. I grew up in a small farming town and there were no blacks located there so my story has digressed a lot from skin tones. My story here is more about standards of so called looks in females within my racial group.

The end of my story is this: a true story. A group of teenagers were going to an eating establishment in the city. A young attractive woman is a passenger in the front seat of the vehicle. She is about to celebrate her 18th birthday. The car is travelling quite fast and going over the speed limit. The cops pull the vehicle over. He speaks to the driver. The driver is also a young quite good looking woman. The city cop is about to give the driver a ticket for $450.00. Then everyone explains that Suzanne is late for her birthday celebration. The cop looks at Suzanne’s smiling face and broad smile and beautiful eyes and long curling eye lashes and whatever else I am not sure- and he decides not to give the ticket. This is an error of course on many facets. Of course that is another topic. Society and that particular cop were influenced by the looks of the young women in the car. I have changed the name of Suzanne from her real name.
