The tragic story of the day my son lost his beloved blanket forever.
My son Isaiah was brought home from the hospital wrapped in a blue blanket, cover with basketballs, footballs, soccer balls, and such. Since that moment, he has never let it leave his sight. He takes it where ever he goes, he sleeps with it, he eats with it, it even has to be in the bathroom with him when he is taking a bath. He is almost two years old now and that same blanket has been attached to him the whole time.
So, one evening, I decided we should all take a walk to the store, me my husband, Isaiah and his sister. We buckled him up in his stroller and handed him his blanket, like usual. And we set off on our walk. It was starting to get dark out, and it was getting pretty cold. He just clenched to his blanket and was nice in warm the whole way down the street. The store we where going to was across the main road, so we stopped at the stop light, waited for the light to change, and went across the street. Once we got across, we started walking through the parking lot. While walking I glanced down at Isaiah and stopped. His blanket was gone! The blanket that had been with him for two years, the blanket that he was born with was gone! I turned and looked to see it laying in the middle of the road we had just crossed. I screamed and my husband went running over to get it. Just as he was about to cross into the road to get it, a truck drove right over it and the blanket got caught underneath and went flying away quicker then we could even realize what had happened all while poor Isaiah was watching.
Looking back at that night I’m not sure who was more upset: me or Isaiah. I was screaming at my husband to hurry up and get back to the kids, and when he did I went running down the road after the truck. I don’t know why at the time I actually thought I could keep up with a moving vehicle, but after about a half of a mile run, I realized I wouldn’t catch them, they wouldn’t see me, and they definitely did not hear me screaming for them to stop.
