The ongoing story of a young writer living with his mother one step away from eviction, makes a strange deal that has both tragic and horrifying consequences.
You remember in the last chapter David was informed by Nicholas who the first person he must recruit from the Church is a 75 year old woman named Joanne Brown. We now find David in the process of trying to sell her on the idea of The Deal.
“Ms Brown you will be able to ask for all the things you ever wanted. Look at me I have books on the best seller list and getting movie deals and have all the money and all the things I ever wanted.”
“Yes but for your soul David. We are only on this planet for a short time but your soul lives forever. I have only a short time left I have lived my life and I lived it in the Lord.”
“But you can choose to live forever, be young again, have all the money you could ever want. You would never have to die.”
“You make it seem so simple David.
“It is, all you have to do is write down what you want and it will be done quickly and painlessly.”
Ms Brown is quiet for a few minutes but then asks David for a piece of paper and a pen and begins to write.
“You won’t regret this Ms. Brown your requests will be honored in a few hours.”
David leaves and goes to seek out Nicholas. He goes home to his room and to his computer to contact Nicholas.
“Hmmm David nice to hear from you again. I say Computers they are one of the best inventions we have given to mankind.”
“You had a hand in the creation of computers?”
“Yes we did. We had a hand in most of your so called inventions but I know you did not call me here to discuss our inventions.”
“No i just wanted to let you know I got Ms. Brown to agree to the deal here are her requests.”
“Good job David I will let you know soon who else I will need you to talk to.”
A few days pass by and we see Davids Mother Ava sitting alone on a bench in the old neighborhood. When someone walks up to her and says…
“You are to beautiful to be sitting out here looking so sad, smile, I bet when you smile it lights up the heavens without a need for the sun.
“Oh thank you I like the compliment but it sounds a little corny.”
“But it got you to smile did it not?”
“Yes.”
“But why so sad?
“Oh its a few things. Do you know I used to be so poor I did not know where my next rent payment was coming from. Now I have a little money but I was happier when I was poor.”
“Why so?”
“It’s my son he has changed so much. He, our relationship is not the same, he seems so distant, he stays out all night, out with different women his sense of morality has well lets say it seems he doesn’t have any more, but I know you don’t want to hear all this and by the way who is this I’m sharing my problems with?”
My Name is Nicholas and I don’t mind listening to you?
Meanwhile at the Church…….We see Pastor Jeff Williams and Nathan Curry a church member having a conversation when…
“Nate who is that, she is fine? I have never seen her here before I have got to meet her.”
“Pastor she sure is fine but I will beat you to it. She is from what I heard, you know Joanne Brown?”
“Yes”
“She is her niece from California and as well as being fine I hear she has money.”
