“My sister, Violet, is dancing on stage with Pavlova tonight.” Millicent said with a strong sense of pride in her sister, “It looks like we are about done here. All his notes have been sent, about the only thing left to be moved to the Manor are his pipe and violin. Would you like to attend?”
“That would be marvelous, Millicent. He sure built up quite a library on crime. What about Charles?” asked Judith Watson.
“Oh, he will be joining us afterwards, he’s touring Scotland Yard. You know he is always a police officer. Penelope and her escort will be joining us, so we should be in proper company.” Millicent stated.
So, on the night of the ballet, Millicent and Judith, having properly dressed for the occasion, entered a cab just outside 221B Bakers Street.
The cold, damp night air of February chilled passer-byes, as the cab sped away.
“We have company, Judith.” Millicent said in a hushed tone.
“What? Where? I don’t see anyone.” Judith said as her eyes enquired the surroundings.
“Behind us, keeping back but definitely following us. I noticed the his silhouette in the park car when we left Father’s house. Here put this in your purse, it was father’s. ” Millicent handed an old revolver to Judith.
“But… Well, just in case then.” Judith said.
The cab pulled in front of the Theater and the doorman opened the door. Millicent and Judith stepped out and were joined by The Countess Penelope, her sister, an aging Mycroft Holmes with four of his nine children and his wife, Bonnie, Penelope’s escort, Prince Edward and his security entourage, Lord Whellingham and his lovely wife, Lady Anne, and two men, Mr. Aaron Brown and Mr. Percival Rodgers. The later two had been selected by the Queen because both were very trusted and capable policemen and both had grown up around and had grown very fond of the “Holmes’ girls.” They were to be Millicent and Judith’s escorts, that is, until the New York City detective, Charles Blackstone, arrived to take on the husband’s duties of escorting his lovely wife, Millicent.
Despite the wet and coldness of the night, the atmosphere was warm and friendly. Millicent, had seemed to arise out of the recent loss of her beloved father and the man, she would call “Uncle John.”
