This is a short fable about a donkey and his misfortune.

Once upon a time, there was a farmer that had a donkey.

This particular donkey spent all his time mumbling about his fortune:

-         Poor me, either it is winter, spring, summer or autumn, I always have to get up earlier, sometimes even before the roosters get up…and for what? To carry around the farmer’s vegetables…

Fate had listened to donkey’s complaints and decided to give him a new owner – a man that sells skins of animals.

But the donkey had still continued with his mumbling:

-         Poor me, now I’m even worse… before, I could at least eat some of the farmer’s vegetables, but now…I just carry around this sticky skins…

Once again Fate listened to the donkey and decided to give him another new owner – a man that worked in a coal mine.

The donkey now started carrying heavy sacs of coal:

-         Now, I’m really miserable, I work too much and for the worst part, I am always dirty and full of coal dust. Oh, and so tired…

Fate was very angry, finally appearing to the donkey and saying:

-         Donkey, you are never happy, do you think that you can just wait to have a blessing that would make you happy? Sometimes not even I can change that, because sometimes you just have to create your own destiny. Instead of always be mumbling around…

After hearing this, the donkey got very ashamed of his behavior and realized that instead of trying to change his fate or be happy with what he had, he was just complaining all the time…

Moral: Never wait for your fate to change, do something about it.

It’s true we have to do something to change our fate. Only hard work can change our fate in some aspects.

Very true. If you feel happy about what you have, God gives you more reasons to be happy.

sometimes, we don’t realize how happy we could be with what we already have until it is taken away and it’s too late

Chandrra and Jaidadiz, you two got the point out of it, and I agree with your observations on this fable.

An interesting story with good moral. We always fall into the trap of complaining and doing nothing to improve the circumstance.
