A story about a drop of rain.
The droplet sat there on the ground watching the sky turn a brilliant, bright blue. It quivered as it sighed to itself. It knew the sun would be out soon.
It knew it didn’t have long, it watched the people walk past and felt ignored. It knew it wasn’t their fault, it was just a drop of rain on the ground and they were too big to notice it.
People closed their umbrellas and shook them so other droplets flew through the air. One happened to land next to the first drop. The droplet smiled and tried to say hello but saw the other was in a grumpy mood at having been thrown from onto the hard ground.

It sat there in silence fuming at the person. The first droplet decided it was best not to say anything and sat next to it quietly. Suddenly another drop fell on top of it. It merged together with the other and suddenly it had two different thoughts and two different feelings. It was sad and happy at the same time. It must have been the other drop’s effect on it, the sadness slipped away and the first droplet was now happy and looking forward to what was coming next.
“Hello!” It chirped brightly to the grumpy drop next to it. It decided to call it Grumpy because that was what suited it best. Grumpy ignored the bigger drop and sat there still fuming. “Great weather today don’t you think? Beautiful sunshine!” Grumpy was getting more annoyed by this talking drop. It hated the sun, and he knew what was going to happen next.
“Go away! Can’t you leave me alone?” Grumpy growled at Chirpy. Chirpy ignored him and carried on.
“Oh it’s so wonderful, the sun is going to carry us up and away and then we might get to go somewhere different. Somewhere we’ve never been before. This is a wonderful time.” Chirpy looked up at the bright blue sky and the sun as it shone down on them.
“That’s great(!) We’re all going to go somewhere wonderful and end up on the ground to be stepped on. Or we might get caught by a human or a dog and end up being dried by a towel.” Grumpy remarked. Chirpy smiled at him.
“Oh that would be wonderful. Imagine being stuck on a dog or a human being. Imagine what we’d see from up there. It’d be…” Grumpy watched as a giant shoe came and Chirpy got taken away.
“Tch, good riddance.” Grumpy muttered. Then he was all alone.
Grumpy sat there and waited for the sun’s heat to drag him up into the sky so he could then be carried away from there and be dropped over other unsuspecting people and objects from the great blue sky.
