The next installment.

Detective Sergeant Lee was a man in his prime. Nearing his forty-eighth birthday, he was fit, rugged and possibly the healthiest man on the force. Fine lines around his eyes and mouth hinted at his age, but he didn’t look it. His shoulder length dark brown hair was wavy and drew many glances from women on the street, their eyes usually continuing to admire the rest of him. The last two years he’d spent with Sander had been an eye opener. He’d never had pets and was originally surly about being asked to work with the police dog. He’d found that Sander was a highly intelligent and friendly animal, the two of them becoming firm friends rapidly. Sander was now an invaluable tool and his partner; they went everywhere together, in work and out. This last case was the most difficult they had been involved in. It had started with street users dying from batches of adulterated drugs, but had now become far more serious. This maniac was injecting random people, people with no connection to drugs. The very randomness of his actions was making it nigh on impossible to formulate a plan of action. They’d had a lucky break though; a car had been seen leaving the scene of the crime. A quiet area out in the suburbs, the girl had been left on some steps and seen by a pizza delivery guy. He must have arrived very soon after her murder as forensics had determined her time of death as around the same as his call. A blue Chevy had passed by the delivery driver heading away only a couple of minutes before he found the body. Sander was accompanying him to a bank on the next block where an auto teller had a camera that may have caught the car the night before.
