Hopefully nothing to lengthy… it is just kind of an essay on what I think "luck" is, and if it really exists.
Luck; what is “luck?” For many, it is naught but a word used to describe unlucky, but favorable phenomenon’s ranging from the trivial matters of young children, to the well- being and prosperity of an entire country, whether it be good or bad luck. To others, the concept of “luck” does not exist. And why should it? Even with all the sagacious rational in the world, who can truly and has the right to actuate the existence of luck? The answer is clear; no one. But in my personal opinion, i would say luck does exist. Luck is divine and a notion above human understanding, synonymous with the existence of Bigfoot, Sasquatch, or the Lochness Monster.
“Luck is being at the right place, at the right time,” said the renown poet and author, Natasha Josefowitz, and most likely for many others who cling to the idea of luck, this is true. I’m not going to deny that I’m in that group. One reason i believe in luck is derived from this quote. Humans cannot calculate the results of theirs, and others actions. We are imperfect. If we could determine all the consequential results of our actions and those involved in our everyday realities, we could in theory always be in the “right place, at the right time.” I reiterate the impossibility of this for mere humans, thus proving some greater “force” per se, is acting upon us, determining if we are to be in the right or wrong place, at the right or wrong time. Also more commonly known as luck. It is a variable in the complex equation of life that no one can genuinely diagnose.
An example to support this: A man flips a coin. The million dollar question; heads, or tails? He flicks it up and it lands on heads. Was it luck? In my opinion, yes. Or, did that man determine that at that place, the wind speed would slightly alter the number of rotations while the coin was in the air? Did that man calculate that at that time,he’d have conveniently a slightly scratched quarter that influenced the number of rotations? Did he know it was a state quarter that made the “tails” side slightly heavier, thus minutely increasing the chances of it landing of tails? Did he know how much power to flick the coin, so that it landed within a half rotation of the desired side? With any realistic mentality, you’d say no to all the questions. You’d hopefully say it was just luck that with basically a 50-50 percent chance that it landed on tails, not heads.
