Farm boy goes to the city. Boy, did he mis the boat.
“Whatdja mean I don’t know enough about gurls to go to Winnipeg for a few days?” I angrily asked Zeke.
“Well hell, Buster, I mean what experience have you had except looking at the colored pages in the Sears catalog, and what I’ve been able to teach you.”
“Yeah, some teachin’. Anytime I asked you something, you never seemed to find an answer.”
“Maybe there’s things I know that I don’t share with everybody. But go ahead go to Winnipeg. But if you get in with the wrong people don’t say I didn’t warn you.” Zeke said walking away.
So walk away you dummy. Some friend you are, I thought to myself as I finished packing my bag to go to the city. Maybe I was just a farm boy but I knew what I was doing. Zeke didn’t know it but I had a Playboy hidden under my bed and I wasn’t going to tell him, either. I’d studied that from cover to cover; I knew what the score was.
The smell of the city was wonderful, a lot like standing behind the tractor with the wind blowing your way. But all those people walking around… Didn’t anyone ever sleep… and that gurl standing on the corner all evening, the poor thing probably had no place to stay, and no job. Couldn’t even afford a decent dress judging by that short flimsy skirt she had on… should go down and talk to her, I thought to myself…
“Hi.” I said, as I stopped beside her, “You must be waiting for someone.”
“Well now… maybe I was waiting for you.”
“Aw, chucks. You quit kiddin’ me. You didn’t know I was coming to town.” I replied a bit embarrassed.
“But now that you’re here, wouldn’t you like to go someplace and have a good time.”
“Gee, you mean like the movies?” I asked.
“There are other things to do that are more fun if you have some money”
“I got lots of money, I took half my savings out of the bank for this trip.”
“And I’ll bet you have a room for the night.”
“Oh yeah, just across the street. It’s got nice wall paper all over it.”
“I’d like to see it. Why don’t we go up there?”
“Gee, I don’t know if the guy at the desk would like that… me bringing a gurl and all up there.”
