Italian courts inquire ex officio only when it suits them.
If the judiciary, comes aware of facts that may constitute crimes, shall proceed ex officio. In fact, judges of Trani, that in conducting investigations of other kind, found themselves having to know news about the Prime Minister, had to proceed agains her will, ex officio, regardless of the delicate political moment. All this is quite right. It is a pity they don’t do always. It is difficult in fact they can say they do not know the news that their wiretapping, are always spread illegally to the press. Why they do not proceed ex office in this case? They see the splinter that is in their investigated, and don’t see the beam at their home? How ever, if they are so able when they investigate on Berlusconi, they can not hunt from a spider hole if things happen right under their noses? Nor can they accuse journalists of being too good at doing their job, that, for a liberal like me, is to obtain interesting information and disseminate such information everywhere they can. The fault is not so of journalists. The fault lies just inside the judiciary..
