The power of a distant love…

She graciously took the letter from me with both her hands. One held the letter and the other held my palm. Silence again… time stopped. She whispered… “Don’t just stand there… kiss me”. The letter… she tossed it over her shoulder. She drew me close. I kissed her madly, deeply, wetly, longingly… she kissed… we kissed. Just as her letter had fragranced the hands that had held it, now her lips to mine transferred redolent drops…her drops… her very being, just her… only her… her will… her love’s impartation. Moments seemed suspended somehow. I lingered in that place… that place that resonates between shadows of my heart and thoughts, eclipsing time and space. Too soon I sensed another presence.

It was her dad… and mom, and her sister. They all had a big grin on their faces except her dad. All that he said to me was, “it’s about damn time!”

In the 2nd and 3rd love letter from the Apostle John, he wrote “though he had written with pen and ink, he trusted that he would soon see them face to face”. It is a phrase so rare in the “Greek form” that it is reserved for adoration and for intimate worship. That love letter to us reveals a flaw, a flawwhich began in the garden. It is the hunger for a walk, a relationship, that is rich, and full, and satisfying to us and to God. His letter leads us to His voice… that only reveals our greater need with him and he with us. By His voice we cry out for more… a face to face… but don’t just stand there… kiss Him. “Let me kiss Him with the kisses of my lips as He kisses me” the Shulamite lover exclaimed. Face to face was never meant to be the end of it. In fact… the literal Greek words used by John are “mouth to mouth.”
It is this perfect love that reveals our flaws… and calls us near.
