Jerrys a loner and a recluse stays at home constantly after the death of his wife, until one night everything changes for him.
Jerry was standing at the front door of his house waving goodbye to his sister, Lucy, not knowing that he would never see her again, the milkman, the Asian man who ran the paper shop in town, his brother David, his Mom, Deirdre and his Dad Pete, in fact not knowing that he would never see anyone again. Tonight would be his last night alive.
A few minutes had passed and Lucy had driven down the drive, turned onto the main road and was now headed for the city back home to her apartment which Jerry wished his cousin had left him instead of his Sister, this was the only thing he was jealous about with her.
Jerry shut the front door, went into the kitchen to grab a cool beer from the fridge which was now on its last legs, if he had the money he would replace it, except 2 months ago he had been fired from his job as a lorry driver for drinking and driving and was finding it difficult to get work. He shut the door and headed into the front room, by the bay window sat a floor lamp his mother had given him when he moved in 20 years ago, behind it was a large bookcase filled with books, he had the complete collection Stephen king and many books by H.P Lovecraft. The curtains around the window were the only thing in the room that was new below the bay window sat a 40 inch TV. On the other side of the room was an old chair his Granddad had given him in his will, his granddad was a poor man and so had little in the way of possessions but he loved that chair and Jerry loved his granddad so the one thing in the house he would never throw away was this tattered old chair on the opposite side was a bookcase this time filled with DVDs, so many he could open up a bookstore, separating the two bookcases on the back wall was fireplace that Jerry hadn’t used for years, if he tried to light it right now the home would be filled with smoke in a matter of seconds. In the middle of the room sat a glass coffee table.
As Jerry walked by the small coffee table in the middle of the room he picked up the remote for the TV and pressed a button to turn it on at the same time in one smooth motion Jerry turned around and fell backwards into his chair perfectly positioned to see outside the main window and watch TV without any glare showing on the screen.
