Crashing sadness.

I’d just left my apartment and gotten something to eat for the ride out to my dad’s place. I entered the freeway and was driving and listening to music. For a reason that I could not explain, I felt sad. I felt like something was wrong but I didn’t know what. I drove a few more miles, going slightly over the speed limit. I wanted to be there already. A little more speed, a little faster. Going with the flow of traffic. All of a sudden, the cars started slowing down. Down down down, and soon we were going 30 miles an hour. There’s a place on the freeway where you turn the corner and you can see all the cars coming at you from the opposite direction. As I looked across at the other side of the freeway, I could see why everyone was going 30mph. There was a semi-truck on its side, 6 squad cars, an ambulance, and a firetruck blocking the flow of traffic. As I looked over, I saw a tan truck that, by the looks of it, had been crushed by the semi-truck. The paramedics were pulling a man out of the driver’s side window. He was limp and lifeless. Tears were leaking from my eyelids. It struck me at that moment how something like that can happen to almost anyone at any time. And as I passed by the miles of cars backed up waiting for that man to be taken away, and the semi to be put right side up, I wondered if any of them even cared.
