A modernized version of the fairytale “Frog Prince”.
I can see the flash of neon lights at the entrance, two boys stumble out – already drunk. The huge and imposing building ahead of me casts long shadows on the ground. They seem to almost be sucking everything into them, like a black hole, a hole of doom. My heart is thumping so hard it felt like it was in my throat. I anxiously looked from side to side and couldn’t stop biting my newly manicured nails as I walked towards the entrance.
This is it. This will be the night my life will end or the best night of my life.
Both memorable but I certainly knew what kind of night I wanted.
Inside turns out to be no where near as daunting as the outside of it. Music is blaring out of loudspeakers out of sight and everybody is on the dance floor. I join them and soon find Bethany with a group of our friends. I didn’t feel like dancing at first, but Bethany and the up beat music was infectious and soon had me dancing without a worry in the world.
“Jaye was looking for you!” she whispers to me.
Jaye! I had so much going on in my head that I completely forgot about him.
Where is he? And where on Earth was Gary too?
I scan the whole hall for Jaye but instead my eyes fall onto someone else. He is tall, dark and has perfect brown hair which flops over his eyes. I know this guy! He looks so familiar but I just can’t place the face from this distance. Suddenly the music stops and no one is dancing anymore. The guy I was looking at – well, more like staring at, starts to walk towards me. My feet start moving automatically towards him as if they were remote controlled. Everyone else slowly becomes a blur and the only thing I can see is this mysterious person. No, now I can see Jaye too! He was behind mystery person with a look of pure dispair but soon he too faded into the distance. He was standing right next to me now, so close that I can feel his warm breathe on me. The music starts again, but this time it is slow, like a ballad, but no one is dancing, all eyes are on us.
“May I have this dance?” he asks. My face lights up, I know that voice! The hair had been washed and cut, the glasses replaced with contacts, he wore proper trousers which fitted and the smell, the smell was GOOD!
“Yes, it’s Goofy Gary, quite a change don’t you think?” he whispers in my ear.
“No, it’s GORGEOUS Gary!” I reply softly.
And we stayed like that for the rest of the night, in each others embrace dancing to the music. I certainly would remember this night! But I had predicted nowhere near having a night as good as this.
