Mainly about the founder of the Iditarod.

                                   Great Iditarod Dog sled race

What makes the Iditarod so fascinating to Alaskans and everyone in the world, well Its most likely from the 1150 miles of fierce Terrain and awful weather, spite the bad condition the trail has the most beautiful landscaping known to man: across mountain ranges, dense forest, frozen rivers, windswept coastline and desolate tundra. It all began in the early 1920’s; settlers had come from the lower states to follow a gold strike. Latter on gold has become scarce and all the men went home some with fortune other with hardly enough to get back home. But at that time the race was not yet thought of, the first true dog sled race began a run to Nome in 1973, and two short races following was in 1967, and1969.

Dorothy G. Page the mother of the Iditarod sled dog race, Death in 1989 at the age of 68.Dorithy came up with an idea of a grand sled dog team racing from Alaska to Nome. (For more information about Dorothy Page and the Iditarod, copy past), http://www.cityofwasilla.com/index.aspx?page=85.
