Once upon a time…

Once upon a time there were three gingerbread boys; John, Joseph, and Jeremiah. John, Joseph, and Jeremiah were not your typical gingerbread cookies. You see John, Joseph, and Jeremiah were able to walk and talk, for they were very much alive.

These three gingerbread boys lives started out just like any other cookie being made, but something happened during the mixing of the batter. You see during their making the baker put in a lot of love and a pinch too much of cinnamon and sugar. While the gingerbread cookies were baking the baker heard the strangest noise coming from from his oven. Thinking that something was going wrong with his oven, the baker opened his oven and peaked inside, and was surprised by what he saw. He saw that his three extra special gingerbread cookies were trying to get out of the hot oven.

“Whew! It was getting unbearably hot in here!” one of them said

“Yes! Thank you for opening that door for us. We have been trying for the longest time to open that door so that we could get out of here.”  the second one said

“We were beginning to think that we were never going to get that door open.” said the third

“But I don’t understand how…I mean, I have been baking the same way for years and nothing like this has ever happened.” the baker said in astonishment “How did this happen?”

“It’s your belief in love, and miracles, that has brought us to life.” the first one said

“Do you have names?” the baker asked

“No.” the second one answered

“Would you like for me to name you?” the baker asked politely

“Would you? That would be great!” they all said

“OK then. I will name you after my three sons: John, Joseph, and Jeremiah. Because they are the kindest most considerate sons that a father could ask for.” the baker said as he pointed to each of them in turn as he named them.

As the days past, the baker became accustomed to having gingerbread boys to talk to.
