The following essay tells of the Commonwealth and the Glorious Revolution.
The English had more rights under the Commonwealth than they did after the Restoration. This statement is false. During the Commonwealth, Cromwell took away all public entertainment. Many people enjoyed having public entertainment. During the Restoration they had public entertainment and had more rights. The Habeas Corpus Act was passed in 1679. This stated that a person could only go to prison for a good reason.
The following statement is also false. The Glorious Revolution did nothing to increase democratic government in England. The Glorious Revolution ended absolute monarchy in 1688. Parliament had more power than the kind and queen, which was stated in the English Bill of Rights.
The Glorious Revolution was when James 2 was the king of England. Since James 2 supported an absolute monarchy and was a Roman Catholic, Parliament didn’t like him. Parliament only supported James 2 because his daughters were married to Protestant men. This showed England wasn’t going to become catholic. Parliament passed the Bill of Rights and the Declaration of Rights. This created a democratic government.
