Loss of logic.

“I don’t know if I’ll be in today, maybe later.  I was in a serious accident and my car is totaled.” There was silence. Marge responded with concern.

“Larry, are you alright, what happen?” She said. Not letting Larry know that she already knew.

“Some idiot stopped in front of me suddenly, and caused a pile up. I was one of the cars in the middle.” He said.

For as long as Marge has known Larry she has never heard the feelings of defeat from him. To her this was a broken man who has finally loss control. Something he has always cherished.

He continued, and what seem like his last order of business for day.

“What I want you to do Marge is, tell the people that Vernon Doome, the

V.P. of the company will be stopping by this morning.”

“Tell everyone to give him whatever he needs.” He said.

“Tell everyone to give him whatever he needs.” He said.

“Tell me Marge one more thing, is Darby there?”

Speaking regrettably of what he had told Darby about losing his job.

“Yes, he arrived around 10 o’clock.” She said

“He told me he was in a serious traffic backup.” she smiled.

Knowing that everyone was alright.

“That was me and he didn’t even stop to see if I was alright.”  He said.

“Larry, he was trying to get to work on time, after you had threatened him.”She said

Marge was in complete support of Darby.

“Don’t worry; Darby can handle Mr. Doome.” She said.

Larry expressed a sigh of relief. “I’m sure he can.” He said

Larry hastily did not want to talk to Marge any further for fear of embarrassment.

“Good Marge, I will keep you informed of my situation, goodbye.”

The phone disconnected.

Darby met with Mr. Vernon Haag, V.P. of Haag &Haag Enterprise at 10:33 AM. And as expected, he was very impressed. He gave The V.P. a big tour and explained the whole operation without a glitch. Any and all questions the V.P. had, was answered with complete and verifiable knowledge.

“Darby, how long how long have been with the company?” He asked.

“Counting this month my fifth year.” Darby said.

“Your supervisor, what’s his name …..? Oh yes, Larry Pain.”

“He must be very proud of you.” He said.

“Well I hope so.” Said Darby

“Son…., you are moving in the right direction.”

“The future is yours for the taking.” He said

“By the way, where is Larry Pain?” He said

“He was in a serious automobile accident.” Darby said.

“Totaled his car, but he was lucky. He survived without a scratch.”

“Just moral injury.” he said.

Mr. Haag shook Darby’s hand smiled and started to leave,

 but not without congratulating him.

“Well done Mr. Darby Warfield. Thank you. You must be, “The Good Driver.”

“I know I’ll see you again.” He said.
