It is not unusual to hear people, members of the same family, neighbors and even best of friends or lovers who yield to squabbles and argument even with mere petty matters or things of no importance at all. They resort to quarreling by war of words, yelling with each other, throwing of things to each other that can even escalate to killing. Without knowing it, both of them who succumb to these are victims of the greatest common enemy of man, the devil.
“Do not let the sun go down on your wrath, nor give place to the devil.” – Ephesians 4:26-27

I have neighbors in our subdivision who have long standing feud. They could not even glance with each other for a moment for if one sees the other, they would spit, insult and even throw things right in front of the other. But one day, I noticed that they were both running towards a common direction, they found a common enemy, a burglar/theft who stole both their electric meters. If one would see the scenario, one would laugh. The traces of anger and hate that these neighbors have been into, for a long time already, could not anymore be seen. Instead they combined forces to go after the burglar to be able to recover their lost electric meters. What a nice scene for me.
It was indeed, amusing. If we would only analyze the situation, it has parallelism with that of our common spiritual enemy, Satan. Knowing this, we should forget our differences and idiosyncrasies. Instead, let us put away our personal hate, our anger, and egocentricity for if we will succumb to it, Satan becomes victorious over us. Rather, our war should be against evil and its shadow. Good men should unite to be able to conquer evil. We should always keep our cool head and a warm heart. This may be easier said than done but at the least we should not let the sun go down before we make peace and despise wrath. We should not repay evil with evil. Revenge lowers the quality of man rather than put it in the highest standard of goodness instilled by God in every man’s heart.
Man over Matter
What really matters to us? How easily we become frantic over our possessions may it be priceless or cheap? Most of the times, we end up feeling depressed realizing that we were already consumed by our selfishness and materialism. Indeed, the Words of our Savior were so inspiring, “If anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two.” Indeed, nowadays we tend to stoop down or lower ourselves to the value of our possessions instead of giving importance to our loved ones, friends, and fellow beings that is loved by God so much. We tend to be vulnerable at things without even thinking that these are all temporal.
Instead of giving importance to people and their feelings, we take them for granted. Certainly, giving people more than what they want and doing it with all your heart may be dangerous but noble. Man should get the most attention rather than your possession. Also, love should be deep, passionate and clean to be able to taste and live life completely. Any disagreements should be tackled peacefully and in a clean manner without offending. To do otherwise, the devil again would become victorious over man. We should not permit that to happen. Now is the time to make amends and conquer evil and the shadow of it, with love and good deeds.
