This short comedic story takes a small problem and abuses it, exagarating all the shortcomings of our government.
Once upon a time there was a man named Bill who wanted to be named Billy. One day he decided to take it to the governor
The governor said, “Sure I’ll change your name but first you must fill out these forms, then your request will be given to Joe, the secretary of doing things I don’t want to do, then to the board of grammar and editing, then to the committee of thinking over laws, then to the department of really, really useless statistics, then to the chief executive who supported me and then was appointed to head of watching over you and everything you do, then to the commissioner of budgets, budget cuts, trade deficits and overspending, then the adviser of stopping bureaucracy and finally if your motion makes it that far it will come back to me for finally approval . All in all at least it should take a short 6 years, at most and most likely it will take over 50.”
Bill did not want to wait 6 to 50 years so he went to the president.
Bill said “Mr. President, Mr. President, I need you to change my name from Bill to Billy”
“I’m sorry, first of all this matter is not important enough but second of all and most important I don’t have that kind of power, I am just a figurehead, if you actually want something done go to the opposite of progress, Congress” the president replied.
Bill went to congress and proposed this bill for the house.
There was an incredible split between the parties; the democrats say “You don’t get to choose your own name the government should choose names from now on”
The republicans say, “Everyone should be able to choose the name they want and not be stuck with a name they don’t want”
Finally Bill bribed a few democrats with ones and finally had his lifelong dream of being named Billy accomplished.
Later that day Billy was arrested for bribery with a life sentence, he got out by bribing a judge.
Ironically that day a terrorist got away with bombing a building of national importance no one was in.
