James discovers the truth.
He walked downstairs and snatched the remote. Before pressing any buttons, the television was on. That screen that makes a ccchhhhhh sound and white and grey colours swirling around showed up. He flicked through the channels, but it was all the same, that horrible sound. The signal wasn’t working or whatever, but as it was night he couldn’t be bothered fixing it. He turned the TV off, and turned around and walked in the direction of his bedroom.
About 3 metres away from the TV, that screen came on. James turned around, staring at the TV. “It did not just turn on” he thought. James was just walking away from it and it suddenly turned on. He picked up the remote and turned it off again. Holding the remote, confused, two seconds later that annoying sound came on. What the hell is going on?
James ripped the TV plug from the wall. The sound turned off, just as it should have. But then it turned back on, intimidating him. An unplugged TV, turned off, is still on! It was mind-boggling. James was now very aware that the house is now not normal. He also realised that this was a cheap TV, and if it won’t be quiet then he’d need to break it so it couldn’t work.
He grabbed a screwdriver from the kitchen draw. The TV was still making these unaccountable sounds. He walked towards the TV, screwdriver in hand. He unscrewed the screws from the sides of the TV, opening the inside of the TV. Not having much knowledge on how televisions function, he randomly pulled apart wires until the sound stopped. When it did stop, it didn’t come back on.
James went back to sleep. Ben and James were the only ones aware that this house was haunted, as much as it defied James’s beliefs.
