Settling in.
It took them three days to settle in. They put the boxes in the storage space below the stairs, along with a few other items previously in the house that they didn’t want.
James was pleased with the distance he had to drive to work; it was about equal as it was before. Imagine a triangle, the place he must drive being the point at the top. He moved from the lower left right corner to the lower right hand corner, hardly altering the distance difference.
Ben and Zac were already going to a new school. They were slowly making new friends, but it wasn’t easy for them. It was about a 15 minute walk, yet Ben still had the same habits as before, munching an apple while listening to his iPod. His playlist consisted of Bohemian Rhapsody, Boulevard of broken dreams, baby got back, crazy and the devil went down to Georgia, a large variety of music, keeping him entertained.
Ben slipped into his pyjamas, reading the Stephen King book, “Four past midnight”. Ben put down his book, and turned his bed-side light off. He closed his eyes, waiting for sleep to arrive. He heard sounds, creaking and other unidentifiable sounds. It was mildly frightening, it sounded as though someone was walking through the house, creaking floorboards…
Ben woke up in the morning to the sound of his mum shouting at him from downstairs, demanding him to come to breakfast. Bacon & eggs, his favourite. Ben quickly got some slippers on, and rushed downstairs in his pyjamas. He didn’t want to miss out. Luckily, she had only called his name twice, so his brother and father hadn’t made a big dent on the amount of food.
Ben came back from school exhausted, as usual. He was a faster walker than Zac, so arrived home a few minutes before he did. His mum was constantly nagging him to have showers or baths, because Ben always forgot. Ben always replied tonight, and kept his promise. Tonight was no exception; he was going to have a bath.
He had the choice of the bathroom on the first floor near the laundry or on the second floor next to his room. He chose the second floor bathroom; the only person who came on the second floor of the house was his mum to put washing in his bedroom, so he could bathe undisturbed.
He got his pyjamas, and headed for the second floor bathroom. He entered the room, locked the door behind him, and placed his pyjamas on a cupboard. It just occurred to him that this was the first time that he had ever used this bathroom. He realised the bath was next to the shower, around the corner. The bathroom was in an L shape, the entrance on the bottom right part and the bath on the top of the L.
