The last part of my 4,813 word short story…

His wife was a bit confused and shocked; why had her husband just randomly jumped backwards upon seeing her? Why wasn’t the clearly unlocked front door opening? It was frightening.

James turned back to the door, and once again, tried unlocking it. It wouldn’t budge. James started slamming his fists against the door, whatever was going on, it wasn’t good.

Right before the Williamson’s feet, the floor collapsed. It broke apart, and the family was swallowed below the floor. They fell, fell and fell… into nothing. The family blacked out before they landed, and when they woke up on a hard ground, they were all miraculously unharmed. They all woke up at the same time.

They were in a dark room only lit by a fading candle on the wall, and for some reason there was some strange symbols engraved into the wall. To the left of them, there was a long stretch of darkness. It was a cave, and they were at the end.

When the family realised their situation, they knew that they had to walk through the cave, candle being their only light source. The family begun to walk into the darkness of the cave; unaware of what may lay ahead. But that was their only option, so they must follow it.

They walked in the cave, and kept walking, walking, walking… Then they reached the end. But it wasn’t a bright; exciting exit that lead into sunshine… it was a wall. A big, dull wall. There was some strange symbols engraved into the wall… and on closer inspections, they were the same ones as before. James cursed… they were back where they started.

Minutes after going into search for the exit, the candle went out. The first to react was Jenny, screaming. She screamed at the top of her lungs for a while, she was in a dark cave with no light source. When she had finished screaming, she realised that there was no response. No one responded. There was no sound at all, except her loud breathing.

She then realised no one was even there. Meanwhile, Ben, Zac and James were screaming. When they had stopped, they realised no one was around either. No one was there. There was no food. There was no light. There was no exit. They were in a dark, creepy cave. No escape.

The end – Ben Johansson.
