This is part one of a story that I wrote a little bit ago.

A dark cloud shadowed over Jim every day of his life recently, no matter how much he tried he couldn’t find his silver lining for life. As a result of this, Jim was very depressed and found himself seeking to find himself at the bottom of the glass night after night. Though this gave him a glimpse of what could or should be, he never truly found the answers he was looking for in the bottom of that glass each night. After seeking the advice of an article he had read on the internet, Jim decided to clean out his attic and donate all the old items he no longer used to recycle them and give them away to some one who might need or want them. Jim felt that perhaps this one thing would give him some hope and assurance he was worth something in his life.During a stormy night, which wasn’t to be mistaken with any normal storm, he decided to do this. As he felt himself nearing the attic an overwhelming feeling of guilt brought itself over him. He felt his heart sink low as he opened the door. He had not opened that attic door since his beautiful and loving wife had passed away. While he felt his heart sink in to the floor, he knew it was now time to go through his and her things and let go of the pain of how he felt without her.Jim opened the door and found himself searching for the pull cord of the overhead light which he had always had trouble finding. After about ten minutes of seeking for this pull cord he found it and illuminated the room with a dim yellow light. Boxes and items were stacked upon each other giving the room a look of one which was very organized, this was Julie’s doing. She was always the organized one in their marriage, having every thing labeled and put in it’s perfect niche was her specialty, he missed that about her.The first box that caught his attention was the one with his scribbled hand writing which said Julie’s things . He was unaware of why this box was the first to come to his attention, but he took it as a sign from God that he was meant to see this box first. When he opened the box he found her favorite necklace, a pair of her favorite earrings (the ones he bought her for Christmas the year she passed away), a dress of hers and her typewriter. Though Jim was not much of a fan of this typewriter and the many hours she had spent on it typing up her novella, he felt a connection to this item the most. Not sure as to why it was so important, he took it over to the desk which was set up to look outside the attic window. It wasn’t much of desk, nor a typewriter but it was hers.Jim knew then it was time that he sat down and had a feel for what she felt. He thought perhaps this would give him the closure he needed, and instead of looking down that glass again, he found himself putting those fresh pieces of paper inside the typewriter. Once he had the typewriter set up, he decided to place her earrings and necklace beside him. The dress he took and hung on the old coat rack that was beside the desk. He knew somehow this would give him that perfect inspiration. If any thing Jim knew this is what was meant to happen, a sign from God perhaps or a message from Julie.Jim thought to himself maybe I’ll write her a letter, telling her how much I loved her and that I am all right with her gone. Though, that would be a lie. Perhaps I’ll just start writing and see what I come up with. After he sat down at the typewriter and put his fingers to the keys it was as if his whole world came clear and he knew what he wanted to say. The night was cold, the clouds covered the moon and every street light was creating a subtle glow on the ground below. A lone woman walked down the street towards her home, her name was Julie. She was as pretty as a Countess in the Royal Court with her Renaissance dress, perfect up do, and her stiletto shoes. As the words came out from his fingers, he found himself feeling a peace and that dark cloud slowly lifting from his heart and his soul.He continued on with his short story, It’s not every day a woman like this is walking by herself on the street, but this woman was different. She was not in a good place, her makeup was running down her face, she had a tear in her dress on the bottom where it looked like someone had tried to rip it. What could have happened to her for this to happen. Could she have been hurt, somebody must see her and know she needs help. While Jim was writing these words his eyes began to tear, he realized now he was writing about her, he was writing about the first night he met Julie. He continued his story; As she was walking down the road to what appeared to be a black nothing a light blue Mustang pulled beside her, and a man with brown hair and brown eyes asked her if she needed help. At first she was hesitant and kept walking further away from the car and further on in to the black nothing. He however did not give up “Please let me help you, you look lost and you’ve been crying. Is there any thing I can do? Take you somewhere? I promise I only want to help.”Jim stopped writing and realized something was different about the room. There was something missing, and then he realized what it was. The dress wasn’t where he had placed it before writing his story. Where could it be? I just had it there, I’ve only been writing a few minutes, it couldn’t have been moved. I didn’t move it… Though Jim thought he had only been writing for a few minutes, it had been two hours. Unable to figure out where the dress had gone, he decided to keep writing. I must have put it away, that’s the only explanation there is. Okay, I could really use a ride to my home. I’ve been walking for hours, I’ve had a terrible night. My date left me at the restaurant and I really don’t have any other choice but to walk. Could you take me home? I don’t have any money to give you for gas, but I can make you coffee or tea when you have dropped me off.” After he had heard this explanation the young man knew he was sent here on this day to meet her and give her a ride to her home. It was meant to happen, this was fate. “Sure thing dear, just hold on one moment,” as he stopped the car he got out and opened the door for her, “Here you are dear, take a seat and get warmed up. It’s pretty cold and windy out here. I can’t imagine your date leaving you.” He got in the car and they began to have some small talk.Jim couldn’t take it any longer, he needed a drink. It’s been hours since his last one, and he was feeling more and more regret as he wrote this story, rather then closure. The cloud began to draw in closer to his soul and give him a deep sadness he couldn’t shake, yet something told him to keep on and write more. Perhaps it was Julie in his heart, or that he knew someone would enjoy their story, even if he could never tell it to anyone himself. They arrived at her home, and she introduced herself to him as Julie, and he told her that his name was Jim. He could feel his cheeks go warm when she invited him in for tea. He knew that there was something about this woman that was not like the rest. She was special, he had to know her and her story.
