A short, small story.
An assistant lady came in my office, swinging the door open. “There is a lady that would like to interview you.”
“Oh yes,” I was reminded. “Let me see the appointment schedule. Ok. Let Marianna come in,” I let my breath out after hours of concentration on a projection of work on the computer.
A young lady walked in the high-heel shoes and fine dress. I glimpsed, and thought that she might be a journalist. I stood and shook her hand. “Have a seat, please,” I eyed the chair. “So. What bring you here down to the campus institution?”
“I’d like you to interview about your thoughts and summary. I need a report. For my company,” Marianna tried to find the right words.
“Is this your first interview?”
“Yes. How did-”
“Don’t worry. It’s always like that on every first interview. And then you will eventually improvise and get used to it,” I smiled. “So. What is the subject? You mentioned a summary. About what?” I got straight to the point as sharp as a blade.
“A decade ago, as well as few decades. How wars have impacted on the college campus community. And how it is shaped,” said Marianna.
I thought for a moment in deep silence. “I need to gather my thoughts.”
Silence was then presented for several minutes. Marianna began to realize how uncomfortable I was. “Perhaps I should come for other time-”
“No. It is ok. This is first and last. Marianna, this is something that you don’t learn in school. We installed a certain policy under educational institution guideline that this should never happen again. Your youth seem to reflect that,” I remarked. “It is perhaps for the best.”
“Sir?”
“I’m ready. If you have a recording device, please go ahead and start.”
The year was 2035, few years after the end of WWIII and Inland Social Wars. Peace and Normalcy have returned to its society and peoples. Ford empire reigned large in the business of genetic engineering and conservancy that feed the mass number of people across city-states. To preserve the economical cycle, Western and Eastern states have agreed to negotiate their economical dependence on each other.
The main catalyst was the health-care bill issue, dating back to three decades prior. The people were mad and angry. Some 70 million sacrifices were required to fight for their homeland. Some say it could be as much as 100 million. This was not a clear indicator, due to the fact that we did not keep records on such a massive scale. The main opponents were democrats and republicans, not long after the onslaught of illegal immigrants, which numbered as much as 10 millions, or higher, to counter the waves of communist hordes.
