Charlie dreams of becoming a great hero and having fantastic adventures. He gets everything he wishes for when he finds himself stranded in the magical Wingle forest; he is transformed into a powerful knight and discovers the legendary race of elves who live in a city in the treetops. Unfortunately, all of this comes with a price, Charlie can remember nothing of his past life as a child and he begins to realise that grown-up adventures are not nearly as much fun as the imagined adventures of children.

Goblins are not animals. However neither can they be viewed on equal terms with the other species such as humans and elves. They are much, much less sophisticated. They are both hunters and scavengers. They are a nomadic species; rather than living in towns and cities they travel together in great hoards between food sources. They do not build permanent structures and they do not grow food in farms. Possibly this is because they have yet to learn how to or more likely it is because they are unable to digest anything other than meat. They are carnivores in the most extreme sense of the word; they will devour any creature that is not goblin including humans and elves. Sometimes when the hoard grows too big and the other food sources run out they will attack the settlements of the other creatures. This solves the food problem for a while and inevitably the hoard is cut down to a more manageable size. The bigger the hoard the bigger the settlement they must attack. Ikik Kul was the current goblin Wark and his hoard was huge.

Kul himself was also a much larger than average goblin reaching almost six feet tall and he now pulled his huge gait up to the highest branches of the canopy with his long gorilla-like arms. He was furious with the tiny goblin that he was following and he was physically disgusted by its pathetic size. It had insisted that Kul himself join him to be the first to view its find, no doubt hoping to be rewarded with some kind of promotion. Kul had already decided to kill the creature once he had seen what it had to show him. It now stopped a few feet above him.

“Here’s the place. You can see from here Wark, look!”

Kul climbed to where the little goblin was standing and gazed through the leaves to where it was gesturing.
