‘I say, sir,’ replied Roger, I am ready to obey you now. But how do you get away from in these circumstances?

-To serve you better and perhaps to save me, Roger. And you, Norbury?

For answer the squire, no less courageous than Roger, grabbed the rope and began to secure it firmly around a rock ledge. Then he took off a few pieces of armor, helped by Roger, who did the same with it, while the Baron continued, turning to Norbury:

‘If the prince has already gone through the bulk of the army, as you can ascertain the whereabouts of Chandos, or Calverley Nolle. God protect you!

The Baron and Roger, deeply moved, followed with his eyes, bent over the rocks, the dangerous descent of the young squire. Had it arrived at a little distance and try to support the foot in a crevice of the rock, when he received the first shock of the slingers enemies. One of the stones hit him squarely in the head and outstretched arms he fell into the abyss.
