I was wondering what it would be like to be a ham sandwich so I wrote this..
The life and death of a ham sandwich
A young boy was hungry and began to make a ham sandwich. As the young child gathers the ingredients to make a ham sandwich he thinks of what he wants on it. I watch as he gathers the lettuce, and breaks off a few leaves and sets them on a plate he had set there previously. After he puts the head of lettuce back he grabs a tomato, he reaches into a drawer and pulls out a knife, he gently cuts into the tomato squirting tomato juice all over, and I see red tomato juice on the counter. After he gets slices of the tomato he chooses his cheeses, I’m hoping he chooses Swiss and pepper jack, he grabs 4 slices of each and sets them on the plate. He decides to use 3 slices of light rye bread, he also grabs some spicy mustard and other ingredients.
As he set the bread slices on the plate, I began to feel something happening, things started to move about. I started to feel light with a swirling feeling. I could see the boy applying the mustard to the bread, as he continued to make the sandwich things just got worse. Things got dark and then light again. I still watch as he puts the tomatoes, green peppers, onions, and other ingredients on. I see the ham on the plate but he has not put it on the sandwich yet, as he picks up the ham the swirling became intense and I couldn’t handle it any more, everything went dark.
As I came too, things seemed settled, but different. I felt contained in a small body, as I looked around I could see the same room I was in before but everything looks bigger. The cabinets looked huge; the windows seemed to be letting in more light than before. I looked at the stove and the boy was standing there and looked as if he was cooking something, he too looked bigger I couldn’t quite place it but something was very strange.
