A fable.

On the first day of spring all the animals gathered around a new sign posted on a tree trunk saying the spring berries were ready to be picked at dawn. Everyone was excited to finally get to eat fresh juicy berries, so they went to bed early so that dawn would come faster. But little sparrow stayed up late, flying with his friends and didn’t go to bed until after the moon had risen high in the sky. When dawn arrived, little sparrow was still snug in his nest, dreaming of the berries.  He didn’t awake until most of the animals had returned from the berry bushes. When he arrived at the berry bushes, he found that nobody had left a single berry for him to eat. He was too late.
