A short story.
A LONG DROP
Once a year my Grandad and Nan pay for our family to visit their amazingly large villa in Montesquieu des Alberes which is situated at the foot of a beautiful mountain covered in a sea of wavy green trees which are visible from the foot to the horizon. As a family we decided that there was only one way to finish a perfect holiday. ‘Aqua land’!!! As you may have judged from the simple but effective name it’s a water resort. And what a resort it was! Through the pounding heat we drove but it didn’t bother us because we knew we could cool down and have fun as soon as we arrived… And we arrived! Dramatically we all raced to the gate with our tickets ready (which were booked in advance) and one by one we passed through the gate. A quick stop in the changing rooms and we were in swimming trunks and raring to get soaked. Zach and I went with each other while the other four members of the family went their own way. Being twins we always dare each other to do challenging things, then we don’t let the other forget it to prove to one other who’s the most dominant (of course everybody knows that’s really me!) The perfect decider was obvious and we could clearly see it was the chosen one… The steepest, longest, and scariest ride in the entire park was going to decide who the better twin was. As we joined the crowd of onlookers we could see that this would be a difficult test. If you were to face this monstrous slide you would be pushing off at the beginning on a slightly downhill slide to then face a sudden drop, the following is the worst part; After the slide dips you are violently pulled down by gravity and with a thud land back on the slide, and the sheer speed of the final stretch finishes the whole nightmare in a matter of seconds. We approached the spiralling staircase and wound up stair upon stair until we reached the penultimate one. We stood for a moment in hesitation as we painfully watched people fall and slide down… down… down. Now it was our turn! We edged slightly forward and sat precariously close to the drop point. I never looked down, I was too frightened. Zach was in the same position as well, but as everyone knows whatever goes up must come down. We push off. As a result of pushing off gently it made the whole thing worse, it gave me time to look down and see the sheer drop to which in seconds I was about to face… I was slowly creeping forward even though I tried to resist… There was no going back… I had fallen…
