Fred, the lorry driver, lived with his parents. He worked for a transport company that carried goods from Johor to Kuala Lumpur.
One morning, as Fred was driving back to Malaka, he saw a man waving frantically to him from the side of the road. Fred also saw a car in the ditch. Immediately, he stopped his lorry and got down although he did not know the man.
The man walked towards Fred and said’ “My car skidded and landed in the ditch. Can you help me to get the car out, please?” Fred had helped many people in difficulties and he wanted to help this man who looked so distressed. However, he did not know how to get the car out. Then, an idea struck him. “Don’t worry,” he told the motorist and went back into his lorry. He remembered the long rope that he had.
With the rope in his hand, he said, ” We can pull your car out easily with this rope. I’ll tie one end of the rope to my lorry, you tie the other end to your car.” The mototist felt relieved, and did as he was told. After tying the rope, Fred got into his lorry forward slowly and in the end the car was pulled out of the ditch.
The motorist was delighted. Now his problem was over. He helped Fred to untie the rope from the vehicles and thanked Fred for his timely assistance. ” I really am thankful for your help. Honestly, I don’t know what would have happened if you hadn’t stopped. Many lorries passed by, but none of them stopped,” he said.
With a smile Fred replied, ” Well, I try to help whenever I can.” As the motorist got into his car Fred reminded him, : Drive carefully, okay.”
