This missionary is shifted to a dimension controlled by an oppressive religious government.
The fight for the separation of church and state has been ongoing since before the founding of this nation. But lately the ones who hate religion are winning. But in 1830, there was no real conflict in America. People knew that the best people to run the government were those who had a strong faith in God. That was when Mendran Faber left the seminary and shifted to a dimension that was controlled by a government that was granted power by the religious leaders.
Mendran shifted to the dimension with a female biosyn he named Bay and the other standard equipment missionaries took with them. They shifted to the city of Gorganfee which was more advanced technically than America by over a century and a half. They drove a truck and sedan to the registration office and parked in the parking garage to go up and find a house and maybe a sanctioned church to serve in since those who went to churches that weren’t sanctioned were arrested and placed in prison or never seen again.
The real estate office was busy with people purchasing and selling properties when Mendran and Bay walked in. She was modestly dressed, as was the law in the society, and Mendran wore drab clothes that wouldn’t bring attention to himself since pride was a crime that was punishable by a week in jail for the first offense and longer sentences for the next time the people offended.
“God bless you this morning,” said the real estate agent. Mendran and Bay returned the greeting. ”How may I help you two?”
“We need a house. Since we are only two people, a small one will do,” said Mendran. “We also need to find a church to serve in. Are there any available that need our help?”
“I have plenty of houses listed and there are at least three churches that need assistant pastors. Are you two registered in the Religious Directory?”
“No we aren’t. Can we do that here?”
“I’m sorry, but you need to go to the Office of Religious Affairs for that. Since neither one of you are registered, you’ll be assigned to a church to serve in.”
“That is fine with us. Wherever God wants us we will be happy to serve.”
