The Crusades attracted both spiritual and brutal men.  Many went to free Jerusalem from Islamic control while many others went to the Middle East for glory and land if they could wrest control from the owners.  The same thing was true in the dimension Pyrupts Gorngon chose to be a missionary to. 

In 1895 after graduating from seminary, Pyrupts chose a male biosyn to accompany him to the other dimension.  After being equipped with the standard equipment plus plasma discharge weapons that looked like short staffs with holes in one end and a bent handle on the other end plus swords that had blades made from ultra-stressed material for supreme toughness and sharpness, the pair shifted to the dimension and rode their wagon into the coastal city of Manvaree. 

The streets were congested with people, horses, wagons, and carts.  Many were there to board ships to travel to the region of the Jauvarens who had seized the area from the Christians who cried out to the Grand Overseer of the church for help.   Over 50,000 had gone over to fight for the land.  But that was months ago and the Jauvarens still held onto the region tightly.  Their new leader, Hodulus, was a brilliant military strategists who had claimed the holy city of Braveen by placing 500 of his people in the city disguised as simple peasants who helped his force of 2000 overcome the 5000 defenders of the city.  Nearly 300 of the insiders died in the takeover.  But with the promise of eternal rewards in Paradise for their efforts, they willingly sacrificed themselves to help Hodulus take the city.  The defenders that were left along with those who weren’t willing to convert to the mystical religion called Sanreen were killed by Hodulus and his men. 

Sanreen was a powerful religion that also used advanced science.  It used energy stones in its rituals that allowed the users to displace the electromagnetic fields of the world to fly and fire charges of energy at enemies.   Energy barriers could be constructed if stones were placed at least three feet away from each other.  The walls of energy would be six feet tall.  If the stones were placed two feet away from each other, the walls of energy would be nine feet tall.  Often the stones were placed a foot away from each other and in two or three layers for stronger protection up to 40 feet high.  Only the priests were allowed to carry and use the stones.
