“We want the replicators too and someone to turn off the force field so we can leave.  As long as we are wearing the rings, your men can’t shoot at us.  We’ll load a truck with what we need and leave to pick up our reward.  Two million guildens in gold split 20 ways will go a long way in making us happy after the war is won.”

“I hope you choke on your damn blood money,” the general fumed. 

Suddenly, two of the men that were holding the general and his men at gunpoint were dropped by ray fire from another dimension.  Frone shifted into this dimension and dropped the other three.  The general and his men also dropped to the floor to get out of the way of Frone’s ray fire.  He tossed a power ray pistol to Trune who aimed it at the commander of the traitors who were tryng desperately to fire their weapons at Trune and Frone.  But since they were wearing rings, they couldn’t fire upon the pair. 

The general and his men used their conventional weapons to fire upon the traitors and dropped five of them.  Trune and Frone fired at the traitors to prevent them from killing the three men who weren’t wearing force fields.  All three were wounded, but not seriously. 

The commander of the traitors and four of his men surrendered and dropped their weapons.  With his hands up in the air, the commander asked Frone, “How did you manage to fire on us?  I thought the rings wouldn’t let you fire on us.”

“Not multi-modes.  But where I shifted to, they have power ray weapons that require different rings.  It’s like trying to get in an AM station on the FM band,” said Frone.

“It’s a good thing you surrendered or else you would be dead,” Trune added. 

“Bill, go release the guards they locked up,” the general told one of his commanders who was rubbing his arm where a projectile had gone through. 

The general picked himself up and placed a handkerchief over the shoulder wound he was suffering from.  With the high velocity of the rounds out of the barrel of a multi-mode, a projectile will most likely go through a target instead of remain in it.  The projectile also is red hot.  So it cauterized the wound as it penetrated the shoulder.  But there still was some blood.
