Darkness filled the white corridors and heat accumulated in the far reaches of the shadows. Sound was almost completely nullified through the halls except for the distant footsteps and squeaking of rubber boots against the linoleum floor.
Darkness filled the white corridors and heat accumulated in the far reaches of the shadows. Sound was almost completely nullified through the halls except for the distant footsteps and squeaking of rubber boots against the linoleum floor.
The maze of winding walls and doors seemed endless until it entered a certain room, a chilled room full of blue gleaming lights rising higher then the roof. Thin water tanks stored creatures, unable to awaken from the cold darkness.
Something stirred that night. Silently creeping through the halls, claws scratched against the floor.
Professor Goto hid in his study, hearing scratching and other mysterious and unexplained sounds. He continuously told himself’its all in my head, its all in my head.’
Feeling unsatisfied Goto crept to the door near him, he reached the handle and pulled himself up and walked in the direction of the sounds.
After a few minutes of scaling the walls and doors clouded by darkness, Professor Goto felt his way to an elevator that would take him down into the cellar of the laboratory, the very place where the creatures were stored. The elevator stopped quickly then wobbled making Goto nervous about entering.
The elevator creaked and groaned. It wobbled when Goto moved, he tried keeping still but the fear of what may lie below made him shake and whimper. He sat in the corner of the elevator telling himself ‘its all in my head, its all in my head.’
His small glasses became foggy from panic, sweat ran down his pale white skin, and any hair left on his baldhead became erect. The elevator stopped. It sat
still for a few seconds, long enough to make Goto panic more. Goto pulled himself to his feet, took a deep breath in then walked out of the elevator. He walked forward into the darkness, something banged behind him. Goto’s heart froze, sweat dripped down his face and onto the floor. He whimpered and turned around to face his fear behind him.
Goto laughed as he realized that it was only the elevator closing but the earlier noises of scratching still lay ahead. Goto walked forward with his hands pressed against his chest. He kept telling himself ‘its all in my head, its all in my head.’
As Goto walked forward, something about the ground didn’t feel right. He bent down and placed his hand onto the floor, it was water. Water had been poured from one end of the cellar to his feet and it kept flowing. Goto quickly walked to the scene of the spill, trying to pick up some courage. One of the tanks was broken in half, shards of glass stood like stalagmites, Goto searched for the metal nameplate that would sit at the top but it was too dark.
Something dashed behind him. Goto heard the claws scratch on the floor. He turned his head slightly; he had the animal in his sight. It was a mouse, a simple mouse. Goto cackled to himself. ‘How could I be so foolish?’
Something stood behind the Professor, something much larger then a mouse or a rat. It was large and hairy, with large sharp teeth and claws.
Goto whimpered ‘its all in my head, its all in my head.’
