A young woman finds she has a rare condition that threatens he life and the life of her unborn children. After several miscarriages a doctor offers hope but at a significant price to the man who loves her. Will he have the courage to do what is necessary?

When they got back to the room she flopped on the bed and sighed. He looked at her. “Do you want to quit?” Lynn and Dave had gone to pick up some things at the car.

“Not yet, but not for the reason you think. What about you.”

“Don’t be so sure I don’t know the reason. I’m so tired of this thing I’d quit in a minute, even if I had to eat crow and pay the $1,000 but I have decided I really needed to see how my patients feel, to understand them, to be able to help them. A day ago I wouldn’t have admitted it but I bet you are about the same place.”

She dropped her head. “I hate to admit you are right but all I can say is “me too.” I don’t care about how much you’d harass me if I quit. I’m miserable enough to quit if it weren’t for how I feel. Oh, shit. I need to get up and to go to the bathroom again.”

He braced on his crutches, took her hands and pulled her up, then pulled her toward his body. She stood there for a few seconds looking at him, then she leaned her body as close to him as her protruding belly and his cast would allow. The warmth of his body felt good. He bent down and kissed her cheek. They were startled by the noise of the door opening and as both lost their balances, they grabbed for each other and managed to stay on their feet but only by holding to each other. Lynn clapped as they came in.

“What do we have here?”

Two embarrassed professionals looked like two kids caught kissing behind the barn.

After they retired and Lynn and Dave were asleep, Harry got up to go to the bathroom. When he passed Joyce she motioned to him. At first he shook his head but finally he crutched over to he bed. She pulled him down, kissed him and then lay back down. He looked at her for a few minutes, bent down and kissed her, then went to bed. In a few minutes both were asleep.

They rose the next morning and headed toward home. Both of the doctors had slept well for the first time. On the way Harry and Joyce got into a conversation about the things they had observed during the weekend. Both agreed that they had learned a lot but wouldn’t want to do it again.

This seems like a very interesting story, as the others seem as well! I’ll get around to continuing it!
