My life was perfect, I had awesome friends, perfect grades, and of course, the perfect boyfriend. But all of that was going to change.

The date was January 7, 2008. My birthday party was a go and for a treat, we were all going to the ski resort for a little bit of fun. I invited six of my closest friends, Katharyn; who never stops talking, Janni; the biggest teacher’s pet I ever met! (Her life revolves around school) Hannah D; the sweetest girl you will ever meet, she goes around skipping and laughing and being nice to everyone, Arielle; the star captain of the cheerleader squad, Heather; who dyed her hair once and now is addicted to dying it, Bailey; the obnoxious and loud friend of mine, and me, Quincey; the type that doesn’t think before I talk. We all were walking to the ski lift when a faint gust of wind arose. A chill crept down my spine, but I ignored it because it was my birthday. We all crowded up in the line talking about all the cute guys working the ski lift, when it was our turn to go. Arielle and Hannah went first onto the ski lift. I was really nervous because I had been scared of hights since the tree incident in first grade. Once Arielle and Hannah were set, they started up the hill. Next was Heather and Janni. Once again as they started to rise up the hill, they brought up the next person. Katharyn tried convinced the hot ski lift employee that she needed to ride alone and by using her charm, she got her way and was sent up the hill, by herself. Last was Bailey and I, we walked up to the ski lift employee and he told us to stand on the tape. I stood there shaking, half cold, half scared, when the ski lift chair came around. I held my breath and sat on the seat.

We slowly made our way up the hill. I looked around at the scenery but I was too distracted about the swaying of the lift. I felt like something bad was going to happen. At that moment the lift halted to a stop and we were stuck, over one hundred feet in the air. I looked at Bailey for an encouraging statement like, “It always does this,” or “Don’t worry, everything is going to be fine,” but all I saw was the same fear I had in my eyes. I looked up ahead at my friends, when a piercing sound echoed through out the mountain. It came from Arielle and Hannah’s chair. I struggled to see what was going on but soon found that I wished I hadn’t looked. Arielle and Hannah’s seat was swaying way too fast. The hinges on the lift slowly unscrewed themselves like magic. The seat fell to the ground and fell right on top of the two girls. A pool of blood appeared from underneath the cart. Arielle and Hannah were dead, but it didn’t stop there. The chair lift was off again, but at three times its normal speed. We flew up the hill where Heather and Janni’s chair flew up on the top of the mountain, and it’s safety latch unhooked. Then like a sling shot, Janni and Heather flew straight forward into a tree. All that was left was Katharyn, Bailey and I.
