Mysterious things will never seize to happen in the mysterious world of ours.
You may have your painful stories to tell after this story. They had all came back from work by 5:30 pm in the evening before they got a phone call that Scholarstica was admitted at the Federal Medical Centre in Owerri. It was a big surprise to all as they immediately got dressed up again, and drove off with the family car to reach the hospital where she was receiving treatment.
The main story was told by the medical doctor Tony who narrated that she fainted at the school administrative corridor and was rushed by the Student Union Government to FMC. Scholarstica could notice discussions going on between the doctor and members of her family. She was the first issue and the only daughter born to happy family of Mr. Edwin and Mrs. Catherine Jacobs. She could hardly explain what happened to her as she was very dull and weak sequel to the excruciating pains she bore at that moment. On the contrary, she wore a smiling face even at her situation such that one stops panicking at her ill health. Mrs. Catherine could not hold her tears seeing her only beloved daughter lying at the hospital bed perhaps her first time ever since she was a teenage girl. Mr. Edwin touched her hair with all tenderness and gently kissed her forehead. ‘What brought you here my daughter?’ he wondered and immediate went to the infirmary to get the prescribed drugs which he had already paid for her treatment. It was almost late in the evening and so he drove back home with his only son Martin to help prepare dinner for night. They all slept in the hospital to keep her companied.
The next day, she went for another test where she was reported to have been suffering from hepatitis. The doctor in charge disclosed that her situation had worsened as the illness had eaten up part of her liver. In such a situation like this, she felt even more relaxed and comfortable. Her blood pressure was ok but she complained of feverish and constant headache. Scholarstica believed whole heartedly she would survive it and prayed God to heal her. She even consoled her parents and the little Martin reminding them of the sorrowful and the agony mystery of Christ Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane. This time she talked as if she saw death coming to snatch her being. Before 4pm she was busy entertaining friends, school mates and neighbours from her streets and that of the market place and other church members. By 6pm, Mrs. Catherine had to go home with her husband to wash up and relax after staying at the hospital for about 20 hours. There at the hospital was Martin already snoring at the white plastic chair when Scholarstica transformed into something else. Her eyes had turned yellow and she shiver momentarily breathing very fast and she was unconscious and so could not control herself. This continued until she abruptly rolled down from the lofty hospital bed and suddenly gave up to ghost. The screaming transcends as Martin alerted other patients and the nurses in the other apartment. Terrible indeed! It was weeping all night for the poor boy till morning when the matron in charge came with Martin to their resident at No. 7 Amadi Street Owerri to officially announce her death. The boy remained tight-lipped and could not alter a word. Worst yet for the sorrowful mother, Mrs. Catherine as she became the morning town crier for the whole of the residence and surroundings. A network of welling mourning and sorrow fill the whole neighbourhood as her demise was broadcasted and so it was the order of the day being 21st August 2009. Until her death, she was twenty five years of age and in the final year of her tertiary studies. If you care about her beauty, I tell you she is beautiful and slim, fair in complexion and tall to the liking of most suitors. But hence she is no more; life has no duplicate thus her inner beauty so skin deep remains. She was a role model to her age mates and generally to all teenage girls.
