This story is about the main character, Tammy Drew, and her family and
friends.
The character, Tammy Drew, finds out her best friend has bone marrow cancer. She gets the idea
to make up some money to go toward the surgery. She runs into some obstacles, but she has the de-
termination to do a good thing for her friend, Rose Nielson. She sells peanuts from a concession stand
built on her front yard with her father’s help.
Tammy does pretty good at first, but her brother, Will, tries to get her to see the error of her ways.
He tries to stop her at every turn, thinking it won’t work. His parents talks to him about it, but he can’t
see it still. After weeks of making money hand over fist, Tammy sees a lull in the sales and gets depressed.
Her mother tells her she will do fine if she keeps it up.
Tammy buys the peanuts at a local grocer and promises the owner, Mr. Phillips, he will get ten per
cent of the profit. With the help of her little sister, Suzy, and her brother, Tammy rakes in more money
than ever. Will finally comes around to her way of thinking. Later, Tammy gets help from an unlikely
source, Timothy Basehart, who is a multibillonaire.
Tammy finds out that her mother use to date him in college, and that he had given her an engage-
ment ring at the time. Her mother kept it for a long time, then gave it back to him. She gave it to
Tammy to give back to him. Then later, Timothy gives it to Rose’s mother. Tammy finally raises enough
money to give to Mrs. Nielson plus a check from Timothy Basehart.
It isn’t long after this that Mrs. Nielson and Timothy get married.
