It is amazing what you will do sometimes for your friends. A young man who faces one of his biggest fears and in the end, is still a failure.

Since I was a youngster I have been a fan of horror movies. My mother considered it an unhealthy obsession but to me it was pure entertainment. But when it came to seeing horror live in person like at a haunted house at Halloween I would have no part of it. After a few attempts of going to haunted houses with every attempt unsuccessful I swore off going to one. Throughout my teenage years I was successful at avoiding my fear of haunted houses. If an opportunity came up to go I would politely bow out gracefully.

In October of 1993 my friends and I decided to go to Louisville Kentucky for weekend to have some fun and go to a concert. Little did I know at the beginning of the trip what was planned for that fateful weekend. Louisville had a very popular haunted attraction called the haunted woods. The admission price to go through the haunted woods was $40.00. If you successfully made it through the woods you would receive half of your money back. When my friends told me we were going to the haunted woods I pitched a fit and refused to go. Despite my constant complaint, griping and swearing I was fighting a losing battle and was unable to change their minds. I was out voted and had to go.

When we arrived to the location I was already pale white with fear. While tying to psyche myself up to the woods I tried to convince myself that this would be a good way to face my fear and come out victorious. Still racked by fear I reluctantly paid my $40.00 fine to the ticket clerk and held on to my friend Anita for deal life as we entered the woods. At first the journey wasn’t too bad only a few things jumped out of the dark that scared me. We were half was through the woods when a suddenly everything became quite. The next thing I knew I hear the sound of a chainsaw starting up right directly behind me. It made the hair stand up on the back of my neck.

I was getting ready to make a run for it when something came up behind me and grabbed me on my side. A panic of utter fear rushed through every being of my body and instead of running all I could do was stand there and pee all over myself. To me this was the last straw and I was more than willing to forfeit my $20.00 reward and get the hell out of that place. I found myself an escort out of the woods and to the safety of my car. It has been fourteen years since that incident and from that time I have never darkened the door of a haunted house, woods or anything that starts with the word haunted. To this day among my circle of friends I am still know as a little pisser.

I can only imagine the embarrasment that you felt in that situation. However it is a quite funny story…Thank so much for sharing!! I bet you can look back at it and laugh though!!!
Plus the best way to get rid of your fear is to face it, so maybe you should try it again!!
