This article is an ordinary episode of a person’s real desire to get ahead and reach for her dreams. It is because of her dreams that she outshined her peers and got to her heart’s desires because she aimed a little higher than them. It is aimed at inspiring young people to reach for their dreams in their own little and simple ways. To dream is free anyway.

                 The Possible Dream

This article is an ordinary episode of a person’s real desire to get ahead and reach for her dreams.  It is because of her dreams that she outshined her peers and got to her heart’s desires because she aimed a little higher than them.  It is aimed at inspiring young people to reach for their dreams in their own little and simple ways.  To dream is free anyway.

Reluctant Beginnings

Anna, as she was usually addressed to in the school campus of a university in Baguio (the summer capital of the Philippines), was a reluctant freshman who came from a smaller grade school in Manila.  Although she was a leader during her high school days, she was reluctant a similar recognition may be possible in such a big university.  But she was determined to make good in her chosen course, Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management, so she just tried to enjoy her studies.

A year was more than enough to gain real friends, got adjusted and felt at home. On her second year, she announced that she qualified as a dean’s lister, a partial scholarship, which means a reduction to the family expense.  Anna remained to be a doting daughter and never did she got into trouble nor became involved in serious relationships. Her direction was clear, to finish college, get work in a big-named, five-star hotel.

Inspired and She Shined

Anna got involved in varsities, and joined the Frontliners Club when she was on her third year. This was the venue that provided her with training in the actual ushering, banquet preparations and event management. She eventually became the president of the club until fourth year.  Still wanting for more, she joined the council as the treasurer while continued to be in the dean’s list.  She then became a principled leader, a capable officer and a popular figure in the campus but it did not spoil her.  The college dean saw her potentials and trained her further in the field of HRM and she became one of the best student leaders in the university.

Strategized to Get Ahead

On her fourth year, Anna was left with barely the Feasibility Study and the On-the-Job Training (OJT)to finish because she was done with most of her major and minor subjects.  She planned to finish ahead by taking minor subjects during the summer vacation which she started on her first year, while the major subjects were taken on regular school calendar. She followed the strategy of “an early bird”.
