Angela and Kari ann were two little sisters. They planted some magic pumpkin seeds. Can you imagine everyones surprise when a beautiful bright purple pumpkin was grown! What a treat this story is for bed time or whenever you want a happy story.

Angela and Kariann were two little sisters. They loved each other very much. They had a baby brother too. His name was Francis. He sure was a busy little guy, but they still loved him anyway.  It was springtime, and Gramma from Arizona  sent the girls some pumpkin seeds for their garden. “These are very special pumpkin seeds.” Gramma said. “I bought them in a magic store. They only grow for good little children.” Oh, Thank you Gramma!.  Mommy helped the girls plant the seeds. They were very happy because they knew, when Halloween came around, they would have pumpkins to carve into  a Jack-o-lantern. They dug the dirt up in the backyard. They raked the dirt smooth. Then they very carefully planted the pumpkin seeds. They got a watering can and everyday after school, and after homework was done, they watered the garden. On the weekends they searched very carefully for weeds in the pumpkin patch. They would pull them out right away. One day baby brother got into the pumpkin patch. He tried to eat the vines. “Icky! Said baby brother.  This tastes terrible! Then he pulled off some of the flowers. They didn’t taste good either.  “Look at our baby brother ” The girls said.  ”Mommy! Come and get baby brother, please!!” Then they called Gramma in Arizona to tell what baby brother did. Oh my! There might be less pumpkins on the vines because some of the flowers turn into pumpkins, but you should still get pumpkins. Oh! O.K. they said.                                                                                                       One day the girls came home from school very excited! Look! Mommy look! They brought a flier from school. Looking for the best pumpkin it said. It was a contest at school for the best pumpkin. Can we enter Mommy? Can we? Sure, said Mommy. They were very happy because by now all of the vines had little green pumpkins on them. The pumpkins will turn orange as soon they reach their full size Gramma had told them. Every day after school, and after doing homework, the girls sat out in the pumpkin patch. One day Angela noticed that one of the little pumpkins was a funny green color. It also had kind of purple colors around the edges. What’s that? said Kariann? Lets pick it off and throw it away. No, said Angela. I like the purple color. Lets keep it. Every day they watched the purple pumpkin, and every day it got brighter and brighter. Wow! It’s really purple now. The girls told Grama all about the purple pumpkin. Surely it will go away in a few days she thought. Maybe it’s because of the way the sunlight hits the pumpkin. Well no doubt about it said Gramma. We have a purple pumpkin on our hands!  Pretty soon it was the day of “The Best Pumpkin Contest”. The girls tried not to smile too much as Mommy helped them carry the pumpkin into the gym at school. They covered it with a towel so no one would see it until judging time. There were lots of people there. Including Suzie Taylor. OH, hello, said Suzie. My pumpkin will be better than your pumpkin ,Suzie said. My Mommy paid $20.00 for my pumpkin. It was the biggest one they had. Where did you buy your pumpkin asked Suzie? We grew it ourselves the girls said. And our little brother helped too. A home grown pumpkin? Surely that’s why you have it covered with a towel. It’s probably very ugly. Ugly! said Angela. Why you bad girl! Ugly!? Kariann said. Your pumpkin is ugly!  Just then the mommies came to take the girls to their seats. The judging was about to start. Hmmm, said the judges as they went from pumpkin to pumpkin. Then they uncovered the purple pumpkin. Everyone gasped. Oh, look! everyone said. It’s a purple pumpkin.  It’s a miracle, one lady said. It’s really purple one boy said. It’s beautiful everyone said.  It’s the most beautiful pumpkin I’ve ever seen said one judge. It’s so different, said the other judge. It’s perfect ,said the third judge. Quiet! They are going to announce the winner of the contest. And the winners are Angela and Kariann for their beautiful homegrown purple pumpkin. A reporter interviewed the girls for the newspaper. A photographer took pictures for a magazine. The girls and their purple pumpkin were famous. Just then they heard a big crash. Oh no! It was baby brother. He knocked the purple pumpkin down, and it split right down the middle. At first, everyone was quiet. No noise. They didn’t know what to do. Then the girls started to laugh. That’s our baby brother they said. Then everyone started to laugh too. Everyone agreed that he was indeed a busy little guy. And no one would ever forget the beautiful purple pumpkin, or the sweet little girls who grew it. Love you Sweetie.
