My friend, Margo, posed a very intriguing and important question on FB that went something like this: Can kismet (fate) be altered? I myself wonder if kismet can be altered, how is it done?
I believe that destiny is a massive super highway of interlocking paths that cross over and separate at random intervals…almost like one of those video arcade contraptions where one can drop a marble into a crazy maze in order to see where it ends up. What makes a marble bounce one way or the other is pure physics, a mixture of gravity and momentum that is set into motion by a conscious, initial choice to drop the marble into the maze in the first place.
Every choice we make has the power to alter our destiny for better or for worse, and yet I also believe that things happen that are beyond our control because we are part of a vast matrix called life. When it comes to the natural order of life, nature has the power to trump humanity. When I think about this question of destiny, I always remember the feather scene from the classic film, Forrest Gump. As Forrest so aptly and eloquently put it, “I don’t know if we each have a destiny, or if we’re all just floating around accidental-like on a breeze. But I think maybe it’s both. Maybe both are happening at the same time.”
