The Quiet House

Every year at Halloween, one brave child goes and tries their luck at “The Quiet House”. And every year, that one brave child’s heart is crushed, because that house, that one cursed house, is the only one that never answers. But alas, the curse doesn’t end there. Not once has anyone seen the inhabitants of that building, and yet, we all seem to know someone lives there. They have even gone as far as not answering the door on Girl Scout Cookies – only some kind of cruel, cold hearted person would leave little girls standing outside in the blistering heat or the freezing cold without even opening the door.

These unsociable people never seem to leave the house, as there are always two cars parked in their driveway – a red Honda Civic, and a blue Acura MDX. To add to the effect, there never seems to be anyone from outside coming into their house, for a party or even just a dinner. There is much speculation as to what goes on in that house – is it all a massive scam by someone to make us think that someone lives there? Or do they go shopping at night, for their groceries and other personal goods? Whatever it is, it offers some strange satisfaction. Having grown up with it, no matter how awkward, I simply can’t imagine life without “The Quiet House”.
