This is a short story about me as a Historical Researcher (Treasure Hunter or Explorer if you will)
The Real Treasure is in the Hunt
Like always I can’t wait to get up there and search for lost treasures and history. (Gold, silver, and artifacts) I call history gold because knowledge is power and having this knowledge of the past is what I look for. Sure, I may strike it rich but to see what I’ve seen and to keep searching for the riches and history is what I do. I haven’t met any man that wouldn’t want to go up in the hills with me. What man could say no to the adventure, the deep wild forest, and the hunt.
It never gets old, making a new find in the areas I go to. I search for old Spanish history and I could never stop doing it until I’m buried in the ground, six feet under. As I make my way up the mountain I’m dialed into every rock, every tree and every out cropping. I’ve said for a while now to be a great explorer you need to do your history on the area and really try to understand what the Spanish did. Once you find an area where you know the Spaniards mined then you won part of the battle. After that it comes down to the leg work. Of course you need to learn what to look for because of the clues left behind like Rock Monuments, symbols carved in the trees, and the mine entrances themselves.
It is mostly the leg work. No matter what you know from what you read and research, you will never make a discovery if you don’t go out in the field. As you go into the mountains knowing that you are in the vicinity of this history there is no better hunt I can think of. Being in God’ Country (as some people may call it) is something that any man could enjoy and repeat. There have been times that I arrived home without a discovery and tired from hiking and still I feel like it was worth it, just getting out. There are many treasures out in the world and I feel like I’m always looking for mine. Sometimes I sit back and relies that I already found it and it keeps giving and giving every day I research.
