It’s a beginning to yet another story about… universal remote controls.

The bell rung as Roy rushed to his class, late yet again.  Mr. Silverization glared at him with an ugly look, and Roy stuck his tongue out at him.  Silverization ignored him as usual, and stared down at his attendance sheet, repeating the procedure he has known for quite a long time: filling in the “L” for Roy.  After the announcements, Roy felt bored and decided to leave class, with a “Can I Go To The Washroom” excuse, he went out with his friends to chill and talk about the enjoyable experience yesterday in Roy’s house.

“It was awesome.”

“Couldn’t have been better.”

“Where do you get that game?”

And blah, blah. The “old” memories of what games entertained them yesterday and how blurted out of everyone’s mouths, and Roy chuckled.

His sight moved to something that looked awkward on the grass.  He remained silent for a few seconds, resulting in his five mates to look at what he found.

“Interesting,” Pete said. Pete was, like Roy, a frequent skipper.

“This looks… immortal.” Roy examined the multi-coloured irregular prism.

“Cool, these look like buttons, don’t they?” Matt pointed to some pictures, that no one could understand.

Four numbers were written on the back.

“2111. What’s that supposed to mean?” Frank stared at four meaningless digits.

“Whatever, let’s try a button. Maybe it’s a new PSP that Sony didn’t even release yet.” Roy joked, even though there was no monitor on the device.

Roy hesitantly pressed the button that looked like two kaleidoscopes parallel to each other, wondering what in the world this little thing may be.  His mind was all blank as he couldn’t infer anything from that small device that seems to be worked electronically.

The world stopped.

Everything stopped except for Roy himself.  He first was paralyzed for a few seconds, then woke up feeling as if he was in a painting – an environment that was static from top to bottom, with no action at all.  The trees didn’t move, the wind didn’t blow, the sound went away, and most surprisingly, his friends stood there like a statue, not even breathing.

Roy panicked. He couldn’t believe what he has done with the device. First he checked if the clouds moved because there was an awful lot of wind this morning. They didn’t. It was like a hanging ornament on the blue sky, with nothing affecting it.

Then he touched one of his friends. Nothing happened. No one made any noise, nor did they move to see what’s happened. Roy is the only person in this gigantic world who could move and talk. Everyone else didn’t have to ability to do that. Literally, they were frozen, and didn’t even breathe.
