Short story.
They were happy. Perhaps, they were too happy. He still loved her, he still felt the same way as the first time he saw her walking down the hallway, but she… she didn’t, and that caused the problem.
“I’m scared” She once said.
“Why are you scared? Everything’s alright.” he answered trying to calm her down.
“It’s just that…when everything’s so good and there is so much happiness, something bad is going to happen” she said in a cold voice.
“Babe, I know nothing can go wrong if I have you by my side” He finally told her.
But he couldn’t see that it was that the actual problem, it was that the reason why he now lay in bed, crying, and thinking. Thinking what he had done wrong, how to change it, he was miserable. But it all started long ago, they were a perfect couple, both of them slightly crazy. It was simple, she loved him, he loved her, but as time went by, time that won’t ever come back, she lost that love.
The images came running into his open mind, he could recall every moment with her.
It was cold, the street was ahead. They both ran and with an unconscious movement they got each other’s hand, next thing they noticed was they were holding hands running, crossing the street, it was the first physical contact and now it seemed so far away. The image faded away, and he was left alone in bed still crying, like a baby crying for his mom. The pain he felt was something that can’t be compared with anything; but more than pain, it was emptiness in his heart.
And again another image was coming, another memory that would get lost in time. He was standing in front of her, she was against a wall, he moved closer to her, closing his eyes, and his lips met her lips in a magical moment. When it was done, he opened his eyes first and he could see her face, her closed eyes. She opened her eyes; they looked at each other and smiled. It was perfect. Their first kiss was perfect.
His tears made almost the whole pillow wet. He was tired, but he couldn’t sleep. His eyes hurt from crying but he couldn’t stop. The first “I Love You” memory came to his mind; they were at the cinema but weren’t watching the movie. She looked at him in the eye, she smiled.
