I wrote this after seeing the movie The Shadow. It’s a short story/movie treatment for a new version of the character the Shadow with a sci-fi flair to it, and filled with action. Enjoy!

“Noooo, please, help me. Please, I beg of you, save me.”

James thought for a moment, and though he despised the man for all the evil in his life, he still pitied Takashi. He started to move over to Takashi’s soul to save him, but then he heard THEM.

THEY started to come out of nowhere, and THEY moved in on Takashi’s soul. To best describe THEM was to describe the worst horrors of your mind, that could never be truly seen in full, but if you were to see THEM in full, THEY would kill you just by the sheer terror at their evil. THEY are the worst visions you could describe, if you have the heart to describe THEM.

THEY moved in on him quickly, and for a split second THEY focused on James. THEY turned back on Takashi, his screams shattering across the astral plane.

And then, THEY began to feed.

It was too much for James to bare, and the sight terrified him. He felt pity for Takashi, for there was no hope for him now. And he did the only thing he could do. He ran, then flew back into his body.

When he came to consciousness, he cried. He wept. He saw what no living being should have seen.

He saw Hell.

He looked up at a working clock, that had not been hit by the spray of bullets, ans saw the time. Only one minute had passed. One minute that seemed like eternity, and he prayed he’d never have to relive that moment again.

He slowly rose from the floor, and fled from the mansion, fading into the night.

“All right, surround the area!” bellowed Lieutenant Daniels of the Chicago Police department. “Get ready to fire the tear gas. We’re going in.”

Suddenly Carlino appeared out of the darkness.

“Don’t shoot, I surrender! Please, take me away, officers. I’m not fit to walk the streets. I’m a monster, a criminal! I should be locked up, and have the key thrown away!”

“What the hell . . .?” wondered Daniels, with a puzzled look on his face.

“I think, sir, that Mr. Carlino is . . . turning himself in!?” replied one of the sergeants of the S.W.A.T. team.

“Yes, please! I’ve had a change of heart, I want to go clean! I can’t deal with it anymore. I’ve got dealings on all the organized crime syndicates, right here in these books. I’m prepared to testify against myself and others, so that no one can do what I’ve done ever again! These book show everything!”

I found this story quite enthralling, it held my interest. The person who wrote this has a vivid and very detailing way to put pen to paper. I found the premise of truth uplifting and magic a wishful part, refreshing. I liked this story and the words the author penned painted vivid mind pictures for me. I wish this person well in his writing endeavors, I believe he certainly has literary talent. Well done!!
