The story of one Doctors first exposure to the true power of animal therapy.

Dr. Ambrose was considered one of the finest neurosurgeons on the west coast. His incomparable skill and experience left him in high demand for what were thought of as impossible cases. Most of his days, in fact, were spent consulting on cases that had other Doctors stumped. Today was no different. As he stood looking over the chart on the 15 year old accident victim, a frown crossed his face. It was obvious from the X-ray’s that there was very little good news he was going to be able to give the family. It was something he had seen far too many times to hold out any real hope.

Glancing over to the younger Doctor who had called him in he nodded his head.

“I can’t see anything you might have missed. The damage seems to have been repaired correctly.”

The Younger Doctor glanced towards the hallway with a resigned expression on his face.

“I take it that you don’t hold out much hope of her responding.”

“At this point… No. I’m sorry but if it was going to happen at all it would have been in the first couple of days. It’s been almost two weeks.”

The younger Doctor nodded his head.

“I understand.”

“Would you like me to talk to the family?”

“Not just yet… I have one last thing I’d like to try.”

Dr. Ambrose was normally the last resort in cases like this so he was surprised by the resident surgeons reply.

“Oh?”

“You might think I’m crazy but there’s one more specialist I’d like try first.”

Dr. Ambrose’s professional curiosity was peaked.

“Anyone I know?”

The young doctor shook his head slowly.

“I doubt it. She’s relatively new but I’ve seem some amazing results”

Dr Ambrose was well aware of the dangers of holding out false hope.

“Are you sure you want to put the family through all that under the circumstances?”

The young doctor nodded.

“The specialist is here in the hospital at the moment. I can make a call and see if she can reschedule. The family doesn’t even have to know.”

“It’s your call but I’d recommend against it.”

The young Doctor picked up the bedside phone and made a quick call. Dr. Ambrose couldn’t here any of the conversation but noticed the smile on the younger mans face.
