This is the original story of The Spider And The Butterfly. This story was originally told to teach the lesson of sacrifice.
One beautiful day, when the sun was shining. The flowers were in bloom, and the air was just the perfect temperature. There was a beautiful, brightly colored butterfly. The butterfly looked magnificent, and free as it was in flight. The butterfly felt glorious, as it took in the inspiring scene before it. The butterfly took in the scent of the flowers, and the bright colors of the scenery. Suddenly something struck the butterfly as odd. Through all the brilliant colors there was a black spider. This was such a curious sight that the butterfly flew closer to get a better look.
One miserable day when the air was hot, and the relentless sun was too blinding. There lived a dark spider in it’s web. The spider worked tirelessly on it’s intricate web, and on this day it was ravenous with hunger. The only thought on the spider’s mind was to trap a delicious morsel in it’s web, so it could once again feel nourished. Suddenly, up in the air through the blinding light, the spider saw a flash of brilliant color fluttering closer to it’s web. The spider became frenzied, but patiently waited for its delectable meal to approach.
The butterfly approached, and realized immediately that it was in imminent danger, but it also saw the wretched looking spider in need of help. At a safe distance, carefully avoiding the not so hidden threads meant to ensnare him, the butterfly asked the spider what was wrong. The butterfly listened as the pitiful spider spun a woeful tale of her laborious effort to weave her web, and how she was starving and would surely perish if she did not eat soon. The noble butterfly did it’s best to comfort the spider, and encouraged the spider to stay strong. The butterfly assured the spider that it would have it’s meal soon.
The treacherous spider was ecstatic that the butterfly was totally unaware of the spider’s intentions. The fool was actually offering to help the spider catch it’s meal. In a pitiful display of acting the spider tried it’s best to look helpless. The spider felt very clever , every time a lesser meal touched it’s web it would feign a struggle as it let the meal get away. The spider implored for the butterfly to come closer, telling the butterfly to use it’s bright colors to trick a bee or even a fly to fly into the web. The butterfly took only a moment’s hesitation before it flew closer, but it was finally enough to trap him. The spider moved in for the kill.
The butterfly was totally aware of the danger, but seeing the wretched spider in this miserable state, the butterfly grew concerned for the spider’s well being. The butterfly tried it’s best to show no notice of the spider’s not so clever ruse. The butterfly knew the spider was holding out for a larger meal. The butterfly only hesitated for a moment, so it could take in the beautiful day one last time, then threw itself in the spider’s web.
As the spider drew near it mocked the butterfly for being a fool. The spider teased him for getting tricked so easily, and relished the fact that the butterfly was now completely helpless. The spider slowly wrapped the butterfly in its web, and assured the butterfly it would like it’s new cocoon. The spider was loving the torment it was causing the butterfly. Finally the butterfly was wrapped up tight, and the butterfly never even said a word. The spider was disappointed cause the butterfly didn’t even give a plea for mercy. Mercy which the spider would’ve denied after the spider pretended to grant it.
The brave butterfly stood completely still. He accepted his fate, and waited patiently for the spider to feast on him. The butterfly knew it’s actions were good, because the spider was finally smiling again. The butterfly ignored the spider’s taunts, to the butterfly they were only cries for help. The butterfly did not want the spider to hesitate or have second thoughts about it’s actions. The spider was hungry, and the butterfly was glad to be the spider’s meal. This is what was meant to be. Finally the butterfly was wrapped up in darkness, and it remembered how beautiful the day was. The butterflies last thought was . ” I hope the spider will be able to see how beautiful a day it was, after it is fed.”
